The second episode of the RM Framework Podcast Series is now available, offering an in-depth look at how research management is evolving across Europe. This episode features Anna Royon-Weigelt from the ZWM – Center for Science and Research Management in Germany, who provides a clear and insightful overview of current practices and challenges in the field.
The conversation examines how research management roles vary widely between institutions and countries, touching on the boundaries between pre- and post-award tasks, the emergence of “third-space” professional identities, and the everyday reality of leading laterally without formal authority.
The episode also takes a closer look at the training landscape, describing it as diverse yet fragmented, with overlapping programmes, varying quality standards, and a lack of shared terminology that hampers recognition and mobility. Practical approaches are discussed, including the use of competence frameworks, modular learning design, clearer role profiles, and strengthened communities of practice.
The RM Framework Podcast Series, produced under The Grant Podcast channel, will ultimately include 15 episodes presenting insights and discussions linked to the project’s work.
